Excerpts From My New Book: He Can Only Do What You Let Him (Man/God) She never looked back, running as fast as her wobbly legs would carry her. She never even took a breath. She moved with lightning speed between the home of her best friend (not to metion her only friend) and hers. It was the night she murdered the only savior she had known in her short years of living. She dove through the window of her bedroom, pulled the covers over her face, and began to shake uncontrollably. Trying to make sense of what just happened. As soon as the child realized that she was safe. She began to cry until she fell asleep. The next morning, she was awakened by the sound of her mothers empty voice..."Taliah get up baby. It's time for school." Taliah opened her eyes to her mother standing in the door of her bedroom, with her person turned away from her only daughter. Then quickly going back to her room. The child was relieved. For how would she explain her nudity. She also knew at that moment, that her father was extra rough with her mother the night before. She lay there broken and confused. The night before, mere pieces of somthing terrifying. The young girl collected herself, rummaged through the clothes that hung neatly in her closet and found her robe. She proceeded down the hall to her parents room. Where she found her mother sitting on the edge of her bed, with her head hung low enough to kiss the fresh black and blue bruises, that covered her knees. She wanted to comfort her mother but how could she? The child needed comforting her self. She stood in the door way for a few seconds. Then she walked cautiously over to where her mother was sitting and stroked her hair ever so gently. The girl was a pro at hiding her feelings. The years of abuse had taught her well. As she turned and began to walk away. She paused and turned for one last look. Wondering what life held for her mother before she knew her. She imagined her mother possessing an electrifying smile and being undeniably happy. At least that was her desire for her mother. Taliah returned to her room and dressed herself for the day. Though she readied herself with ease. She did'nt recall any of the process. Dressed in blue jeans and a red blouse with matching red sneakers. Talaih took her looks from her mother. She had long thick reddish brown hair and lovely shaped brown eyes. Her bright skin complimented her perfectly. Talaih had perfect feet and toes, which her father used to pleasure his mouth, as he reached his climax during his sinful escapades of abuse and violations against his daughter. Shelly raised from the bed and went into the bathroom. She pulled herself to the mirror and slowly lifted her head. In no hurry to see what her eyes were about to reveal. Tears rolled down her cheeks as she encountered the former shell of her self. She reminisced about the days before her present exsitence. (as much as it could be referred to as such) She allowed herself to drift back to her childhood, and a smile creased her mouth for the first time since she could remember. She went to a time when all was well with her. She could see herself being raised and swung around by her fathers strong and secure arms. She remembered the fishing and trips to the zoo, the bed time stories and readings of the Bible. All done with such loving care. As a child Shelly was exceptionally beautiful even then. She grew into an even lovelier woman, with the smoothest caramel skin tone ever seen on an African American. Her long thick hair gave a special grow to her beautiful oval face and perfect smile. To add to that she had a nice coke bottle figure with slender fingers and kissable feet. Shelly was an only child whom her parents dooted on. She was her parents princess in their palace. The apple of her father's eye and the perfect little lady to her mother. Her mother taught her all the word of God and the etiquette she needed to (as we say) get in where she fit in. The happy memories of a life left behind. Left Shelly in a state of feeling more depressed than before. She zeroed in on her face, which now looked badly worn and weathered. Every time she looked in the mirror. She could see every mark and scare, accompanied by a new bruise or cut. Struggling to find a space on her over populated skin. Shelly's thoughts went to Travis and she grew scared. She could no longer remember the love she once felt for her husband of ten years. To think of her marriage always made her feel really low and disappointed in herself. She often wondered, how things came to be as they were.

Hello, Dena Tyson and all members. I've just read "Published Authors Unite" and I feel exactly the same way about my screenplay I've completed called, The Indentured Servant. But sadly I also feel the same way about the marketing standpoint of things, as to why I'm here. My delima has been.... WHAT DO I DO NEXT? I have from what I'm told and from what I know and believe in my heart is a GREAT STORY! But my delima is how to market it, how to get it edited properly because I know there are grammatical errors and I am ready to roll! What should I do first? Find script editors, a literary agent, enter it into film festivals, decisions, decisions, decisions... Well here is a synopsis of my work. If anyone has suggestions... I am an open book. (Get it?) : ) Well, here goes.... SYNOPSIS of the Indentured Servant Screenplay: The Indentured Servant is a based on real events dramedy, mixed in with several comedic instances in this feature length screenplay. It introduces Malik Davis, an indecisive young man who we find is cold, and asleep on a bench in upstate New York. He is disturbed by a local neighborhod crack head who he normally sells to, Joe. Malik is new in town and has become a successful and popular drug dealer. He is quiet but outgoing at times. He has gained his popularity with his personality and interactions with the locals. He has a way with the ladies, plays a mean game of pool, is athletic, and attends local night clubs and bars with the residents, all in a short period of time. Joe’s curiosity is getting the best of him as he tries to discover who this clean cut, newcomer is, asleep outside on a bench. He must know why Malik is sleeping outside and what makes him tick. Malik normally paces the streets alone, while he does his daily, illegal deeds.

As he cautiously approaches Malik, he’s in store for a story that his heart, mind and soul was not prepared for. Malik is approached by Joe, he initially is embarrassed at being discovered asleep outside on a park bench. Then Malik discovers he’s been awakened to answer a slew of questions pertaining to why he is here and who he actually is. Freezing and hardly getting any sleep anyway, Malik chooses to indulge a great portion of his life’s story with this kind, and now familiar crack head. Malik starts off after he was just discharged from the US NAVY. He was not fond of military life and is not exactly upset with the fact he’s being discharged. He now contemplates what his next move is. A child hood friend, Lou accompanies him the day he is discharged and they reminisce of old times with a mutual friend, Mocha, who is becoming rather famous in the music industry. Malik wants to celebrate being discharged and wants to make two stops before partying the night away. Seeing his mother and pay a few minor traffic tickets at a nearby precinct. Malik is immediately arrested as he tries to clear up the tickets.

As he is released on his own recognizance, Malik and his friend Lou are off to celebrate finally and also link up with Mocha, their long time friend. Mocha meets them at the club later that night. After a brief altercation between a thug, Mocha and Malik, Malik as usual, is a safety net for Mocha, someone she’s always been able to trust and confide in. Mocha has done well for herself and being curious with how Malik has been holding up, requests Malik to accompany her on an important business meeting in New York, Malik’s hometown. Now based on Malik being free from Uncle Sam, and no prior obligations, he takes Mocha up on here offer. Little does he know what he’s in store for. Malik and Mocha attend an entertainment business meeting, and after yet another incident only Malik and Mocha would get into leaving the meeting, Mocha feels the need to want Malik around on a more permanent basis.

Malik takes Mocha up on her offer, even though the money offered was very small amount, Malik feels per Mocha’s promise, that in due time, he will surely have made the smart decision and it will pay off in the long run financially and he will have found his niche in life. In addition to that, he feels who gets to work for the hottest, and newest, music star and a lifelong friend as a job? But things soon change as Malik slowly discovers he is not seen as a childhood friend and an equal but someone who is there to tend to Mocha’s every need, twenty-four hours a day. Malik is now, a body guard, an assistant, hype man, dancer, advisor, confidant and overall right hand to Mocha who feels it’s just an honor to accompany her and that alone should take the place of just due compensation. In a short period of time, Mocha’s worldwide success spreads and grows and Malik’s obligations are multiplied. Now Malik is torn between making a decision of living what he and many of his friends and family consider a dream job or leave the so called stardom and fame to maintain his dignity and pride and true worth?

karl, that was such good advice. thank you for taking the time to respond. you hit on a good point about trust. that's another one of my issues. i find it hard to trust. not many people honor trust any more. there are so many fake people today, that it discourages me from any attempts to get involved. i know that will only lead to my further lonilness and, i am trying to learn the difference between the type of men i think i can trust and the ones not too. that i am having a problem with.
