A WHOLE NOTHA LEVEL OF BALLIN'

I was fortunate enough to be invited to the African American Literacy Expo, in Tulsa, OK. This fine event, in honor of Zora Neale Hurston, was hosted by Sisters Sippin Tea, Real Page Turners, Tag Team Marketing, The Tulsa Library Trust and the African-American Resource Center.
To simply state that I enjoyed myself would be an understatement. Not quite two years ago I occupied a prison cell with another individual that was being forced to pay his debt to society. However, on the 31st of May I sha… Continue

Review From A Reader

I really enjoyed this book from the beginning to the end. After listening to you speak and actually meeting you in Tulsa, OK at the African American Literacy Expo I felt you had a book worth reading. I am so glad I decided to purchase your book it was well worth the money spent and the 7 hours it took to read the entire book. It was so captivating. It is nice to have someone write a book about the game and tell of the down side of what that lifestyle has to offer. You are truly talented and I lo… Continue

Book review from Rawsistaz!

WHEN YOUR ASSOCIATES R MORE DANGEROUS THAN U is one of the most real books I've ever read. Through life, tears, smiles and death the reader is taken on an incredible journey through the life of Tasha and Tay.

When Tay is locked up for a crime he didn't commit, Tasha vows to remain loyal and stand by her man. But, as soon as she finds herself lonely, she welcomes the advances of Alex, someone she met at the… Continue

Poem from When Your Associates R More Dangerous Than U...

“EYE’S OF A GHETTO CHILD”

Eye’s wide open wit’ limited sight
Can see da plights that fa a kid ain’t right
Da home houses a parent that provides no guidance
Da streets and da hood is surrounded wit’ violence
Grown up choices being made
By the time ya in 4th grade
By da 6th or 7th ya toting a weapon
And a few of ya mans been slayed
Lifes so ugly that ya wanna vomit
But that’s fa kids wit weak stomach’
Ya too young ta know ya callin’
But old enough ta know loot calms it
Hate wearing shoes wit no n… Continue

What Does Daddy Mean To You?

WHAT DOES DADDY MEAN TO YOU?
BY CANON
“What does daddy mean to you,” is the question that I want all black fathers to ask themselves. As individuals we all have our own thoughts and opinions, but the emotion that guides us, Love, is the common factor that we all share. We also share the heartache from the violence that affect our children’s everyday activities. As serious as the problem is that they face, the solution is quite simple. Black fathers have got to exhibit the same sacrifice that the… Continue

A KISS IS NOT A CONTRACT

A KISS IS NOT A CONTRACT, BY DARLENE LEWIS, is an intense dramedy of short stories that will take you from the Campus of City College in New York, into the Streets of Harlem. A great gumbo of gangster females that ruled the seventies and true lieutenants of Harlem's Drug Kings. H.O.E.S (HER ONLY EGO SURVIVING) will take you back to the time when men wore AJ Lester outfits, British Walkers and the sisters strutted their Mustangs. Take a trip down memory lane and then jump to the future in A KISS IS NOT A CONTRACT where you will meet women who ran the streets, knew the confidence game and played it lovely.

Then turn to some of the other stories like Papa's Maybe, When There's No Room in Hell, and Pamela's Pecan Swirl...a realistic dose of urban literature you will want to read over and over again. The names have been changed to protect the innocent and the co conspirators.
